Learning through Experience and Exploration

Utmost care is given at this level as the children are very tender and must be handled gently. The curriculum at this stage is fun filled and meaningful. All the activities focus on social, emotional and aesthetic development of the child. Indoor and outdoor activities are planned to develop concept building, motor control, language and communication enhancement. The subjects introduced at this level are English, Number work Environmental studies along with Music, Dance, Art & Craft nature walk and Excursions which improves the child’s cognitive and perceptive abilities.

At IIS, we realise the importance of play in a child’s everyday world. Children are naturally curious about their surroundings and are eager to learn about it. They need to manipulate, explore, and experiment with real objects. Play is the serious work of children. Through it they clarify information, integrate ideas
from their previous experiences, and explore and experiment with their environment. Play gives them the opportunity to add knowledge, learn new skills and practice familiar ones. They learn to deal with their feelings, interact with children and adults, and resolve conflicts. They develop their imagination and creativity and discover how to solve problems.

Primary Years

IIS offers an integrated, interdisciplinary curriculumfor primary school. Our academically rigorous curriculum is integrated with creative arts and presented imaginatively to engage the students physically, cognitively and emotionally.

It is our constant endeavour to facilitate and provide a productive learning process through activity-oriented lessons, hands-on work and extensive curricular activities.

As students move through the Primary school, we begin to introduce them to the world of integrated knowledge, while particularly strengthening their aptitude in the core studies of English, Kannada, Hindi, Mathematics and EVS.

Middle Years (grades 5-7)

The Middle School, Grades 5 to 7, challenges the learners with a broader curriculum; It lays the foundation for the High School Academic program. Study skills are honed, concepts taught are thoroughly grounded – group work and interaction with classmates cater to growing social awareness.

Resourcefulness and commitment to work are encouraged. Induction into the House system helps them to learn loyalty and responsibility . Use of the well stacked library for project work, enhances habits of self study. The spectrum of extra curricular activities gives scope for talents to surface in Dramatics, Music, Art, Dancing, Games and Sports. Each student’s talent is channelized in a range of hobby clubs. Field trips and excursions are organized.

Tests and examinations now become a part of the assessment methodology and parents are kept appraised of the child’s academic progress and are provided a frequent opportunity to interact with teachers to assess the development.
